Justin Bennitt has been in the asset management industry for over 30 years. He began his career with Brandywine Global Investment Management covering numerous roles such as a performance analyst, international equity research, then a research analyst on the domestic small and smid cap equities team. As a member of a four-person team, Justin helped create a product group that maintained top decile performance for clients for five years. The product also reached maximum capacity to be run effectively, so the product was closed to new investors in 2003. Assets under management grew to $2.2 billion. Justin left Brandywine Global Investment Management as a senior equity analyst to become managing member of the Montchanin Value Fund in 2005.
The Montchanin Value Fund was a hedge fund in structure and operated as a concentrated portfolio of equites that were trading at a discount to believed intrinsic value. The fund operated from 2005 to 2010 and outperformed the S&P 500 Index by 700 bps annually net of fees. While the fund had negative returns in 2008, the fund returned to its high-water mark in September of 2009. Mr. Bennitt returned to Brandywine Global Investment Management in 2013 as a senior research analyst. In 2016, he was promoted to co-portfolio manager of the micro, small and smid cap product group. Assets for the combined products grew to $500 million from an institutional client base. At year end 2024, Brandywine Global closed the product group.
